Alma Leisure Park Car Park Chesterfield Reviews

Unfamiliar with Chesterfield and Alma Leisure Park, I arrived early for a Met performance at the cinema on 1st Feb. I looked around for car park payment machines and could see none. The road had been very busy on entrance so I was focused on the traffic and it would have been dangerous to sit there reading signs at the entrance, trying to turn right into the park. I was early and bought food and drink while I waited for friends and the start of the film. It turned out to be an extremely long performance. A week later I received a Parking Charge Notice for overstaying the free parking by 15 minutes (I was unaware there was a limit because where I parked I couldn't see any signs). I've appealed 3 times. Now, on 28th June, I've received a threat from Gladstones Solicitors and I now have to pay £160. Needless to say, when the cinemas reopen, I will NEVER be a customer again. This can be improved! Disappointed. Angry. Feel exploited.

I've also fallen foul of the 5 hour rule (by 27 minutes) despite bona fide use of the Alma Leisure park for a meal followed by a lengthy film. An appeal to HX parking is pointless as they just cite the 5 hour rule. They also state

"Our telephone number is also available on signs in the car park so that the issue can be resolved on the day. However, as you failed to notify us within 48 hours, the PCN was processed and issued.

There is also a portal at Cineworld where customers can enter their vehicle registration to become exempt
from any charges."

The first of these points is invalid as you're not aware there is an issue until you receive a letter some 5 days later.

In my opinion the whole situation of parking at Alma Leisure Park needs reviewing. The signage may well be there but is easy to miss, especially if you're paying an appropriate level of "due care and attention" when entering the Leisure Park at what is usually a busy and congested junction. The companies who offer service at the site should also take some responsibility for making their customers aware of the parking situation.

Overall I feel I have been subject to a very expensive "stealth" parking charge and will now most likely be taking my business elsewhere. To everyone else - BE AWARE!

I don't want to give 1 star.
Our vehicle was filmed using their ANPR cameras going onto the site at 8 am and then leaving at 8pm (12 hours!!). Fine for £100 but as we didn't get the first letter the appeal was rejected and £160 to be paid or court action and CCJ
I tried to call them but they don't have a phone or email for enquires. I had to use another email for customers wanting their services to get their attention.
HX Car Parking who runs the enforcement admitted by email that the ANPR didn't pick up our vehicle leaving or coming back 12 house later onto the site.
Their system is flawed and doesn't work. How many other people just pay the fines when threatened with court action?
I shall be contacting our MP and I will ask the council who owns Alma Leisure Park because they need to take responsibility for who they employ

I parked in this Centre to watch two films 10 am & 1 pm I had a quick lunch in Nandos and never left the Centre until I had seen the second film. I was 31 minutes over and got a ticket for £100, pay by a given date and it drops to £60 or goes up £160. I admit I was over the time but I was using the Centres facilities. Where must I park if not in there? I had to pay the £60 fine as my excuse will not be read for upto 28 days. I am disabled and have a Blue Badge, at 73 years old I must now give up my Unlimited Card for the Cinema to pay the fine. I asked, but got no help from Cineworld and Nandos (not our problem mate. Well it is, how many people don't stay in the Centre (there are several amenties) because of these rules? You cannot guess the end time of a film because of all the adverts at the begining. So my only relaxation must now be in front of my TV. I used to live in Milton Keynes where Blue Badge Holders can park free for any length of time on any day. These scams however are perpetuated across the Country by Councils and big business. They really don't care about anyone but their own pockets.
